“You are what you eat.” Do you believe this? Or, do you blissfully graze your way through the day thinking that what you ingest doesn’t have a whole lot to do with your overall health?
If you fall in the latter category, you’re not alone. In fact, you may have even been taught—as the majority of medical doctors in the US have—that food has virtually nothing do to with how you feel, whether you develop disease, or the length or quality of your life.
Sure, you learned about the UDSA food pyramid. Your mother told you to take your vitamins. Your doctor may tell you to watch your cholesterol or to avoid salt or too many sweets. He or she may even recommend a specific diet in addition to the prescription medications he or she is giving you.
But here’s what’s often missed: Food has the power to heal and can in many cases even be used instead of prescription medications or complex surgeries.
The implications of this are staggering.
In the US, we spend billions each year on healthcare, yet we’re among the sickest nations on earth. For the first time in the history of the world, more people are dying from diet & lifestyle-related conditions than from infectious disease.
Here’s the good news: “diet & lifestyle-related” means that these conditions are preventable and in many cases reversible.
What if I told you that there is a super-drug that can prevent & potentially heal any lifestyle-related disease known to man? Would you want to take it? What if I told you this super-drug is not a drug at all, but the very food that’s being sold down at your local farmer’s market?
Sound too good to be true?
Don’t take my word for it. In the following editions, I’ll feature real-life stories of people who have been told things such as, “You’ll need to take this medication for the rest of your life,” or “Your condition is incurable.” These are people who’ve decided to seek out a different perspective; a natural solution. And it worked.
Is it really that simple?
Everything you ingest affects you physically, mentally and emotionally. The truth is that we ingest more than food; everything we take in has an impact, including what we breathe, what’s absorbed through our skin, and even our thoughts & emotions.
So although food isn’t the only factor, it’s a major player in the healing story. Food has the power to help reconstruct what’s been destroyed by a war waged with junk food, pesticides, hormones, & other toxic substances.
This link could mean the difference between switching on a cancer gene currently resting in your body or it remaining dormant. The difference between you developing pneumonia or bouncing back quickly from the latest cold. The difference between you being on prescription medications for the rest of your life, or healing naturally & completely.
So why isn’t your doctor telling you this?
Quite possibly it’s because he doesn’t know. As many as 93% of medical doctors in the US have no formal training in nutrition. The idea that food can heal is as old as the human race, but for some reason in our Western society, we’ve become more focused on matching ills with pills than on the link between our intake and our outcomes.
Your doctor may not know. But I know, and now you know. So let’s spread the word and begin to take charge of our own health in a positive, optimistic way!
